Horter 1930
Horter, Earl. Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Modigliani. Philadelphia: H. C. Perleberg, 1930.
Earl Horter (1880–1940), the Philadelphia-born artist, began collecting art after his visit to the Armory Show in New York in early 1913. Horter discovered Cubism and then African art and built substantial collections of each that he showed in Philadelphia and Chicago. In the 1930s, Horter gave up his work in advertising in order to teach art. His interest in the School of Paris led him to publish this book, which focused on the figurative works of these four major artists. The slender volume includes a number of illustrations, including over twenty paintings by Modigliani.
