Art Institute of Chicago 1925

A Guide to Paintings in the Permanent Collection. Chicago: The Art Institute of Chicago, 1925.

The first Modigliani to enter a museum's permanent collection in the United States, aside from the Barnes Foundation, was Double Portrait depicting Jacques and Berthe Lipchitz. Acquired by Chicago collectors Helen Birch Bartlett (1883–1925) and Frederic Clay Bartlett (1873–1953) in 1922, the painting was part of the Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection presented by Frederic to the Art Institute in January 1926. In this 1925 publication, the painting is listed under "Other Paintings Loaned to the Art Institute."
