Lipchitz 1954
Lipchitz, Jacques. Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920). New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc., 1954.
Jacques Lipchitz (1891–1973) was a Lithuanian-born sculptor who arrived in Paris in 1909 and befriended Modigliani. In this monograph, Lipchitz presented a first-person account of the artist's life, illustrated with over forty paintings, as well as drawings and sculptures. In addition to collecting short anecdotes from a handful of Modigliani's friends, Lipchitz recounted the story of his commission of the double portrait with his wife, Berthe, providing important details about the artist's working methods.
