Group exhibition
1934b New York
Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Lillie P. Bliss Collection, May 14–September 12, 1934 (exhibition catalogue).
Three years after the death of Lillie P. Bliss (1864–1931), one of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art, her generous bequest transformed the institution, which did not yet have a collection of its own. In 1934, the 120 works of art from her collection—paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints, and textiles—went on view in the townhouse that the museum then occupied at 11 West 57th Street.
